The Story of the Pot

How we arrived at a visual for the ODR Forum that captures what's at the heart of dispute resolution.

Kintsugi

(n.) means “to repair with gold”. It is the centuries-old Japanese art of repairing broken pottery and ceramics with gold lacquer. The flaw represents the object’s journey and history, adding to its beauty.

Image of a violet broken pot which is getting repaired by white hands coming out from within the pot and holding a brush painting green pixels to join the cracks.
Art by Mayur Nanda.

Kintsugi is our inspiration behind the visual of the broken pot - seen across the venue at the 22nd International ODR Forum 2023. This video is our perspective on the journey of online dispute resolution and how we see it represented in this visual metaphor.
